The ideology which Kristol wishes to define as “conservatism” is correctly defined as “liberalism”.
We Americans and Europeans are almost all of us liberals. some are progressive liberals and some are conservative liberals, and then there are the theocrats and fascists who really aren’t liberals because they reject the liberal principles of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. But there aren’t actually all that many of those.

Shenanigans. Ted Loblaw had no children, and the current board of directors has no Loblaws on it. The real Bob Loblaw is, as everyone knows, Scott Baio.

here’s the scoop about the poop in “the little story of the mole…”
Great book, by the way.
I don’t know if this is still the case, but for a while the cartoon mole in question became the mascot of the Berlin underground system. Any signs at the stations announcing timetable changes or line closures were illustrated with a diagram of the mole, carrying tools or wearing a hard-hat or generally looking excavation-oriented.
Knowing the mole’s previous career in poop identification, this did reinforce the stereotype of Germans as being rather fecally-obsessed, and left me with a sense of disappointment that I never encountered a notice about delays on line U7 due to elephant doody on the tracks.
