A final characteristic of the paranoid style is related to the quality of its pedantry. Sept 26 1960 First day at U of Hawaii for Ann (Why did she start 6 weeks late?)

One month later – conception

Two months later – drops out of University of Hawaii

Three months later – married

10 months later – back in Washington attending classes at University of Washington

So these are the things she can’t believe:
1. A teen-aged girl from the mid-west, noted for being especially head-strong, gets pregnant in her first month of university.
2. She drops out of college after missing two or possibly three periods (she gives date of conception as Nov 2 and dropping out as early January)
3. Even though the seventeen year-old girl said “I don’t need to date or marry to have children” in the summer after her graduation, when actually with child she decides to get married anyways.

Holy Fuck! Those things are clearly “unlikely” and “implausible”.

The whole UofWash. thing is based on the brilliant insight that you can’t give birth in Hawai’i on Aug. 4 and start school thousands of miles away a month later (but giving birth in Kenya doesn’t share this problem).
