Some kind person should advise Marie Jon’ that Oswald Spengler — originator of this whole genre of rise-and-fall-of-civilisations literature — was noted for his collection of pornography.

The problem is that the Romans’ decadent hot sweaty orgy phase happened at the same time they were kicking everyone’s ass and their holy Christian spiritual phase started not too long before the western empire collapsed. From a wingnut’s point of view, this kind of messes up the sequence, so they tend to shuffle the details around a bit.
