I wanted to share with your readers more details about New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson’s economic analysis and forecast. In his office’s column, “The C-Note” - at www.comptroller.nyc.gov - we asked: “The question remains: how bad will it be for New York City? Forecasting the course of unpredictable events with a false certainty would be highly misleading—it is like trying to assess the damage from a hurricane when the eye of the storm is still overhead. We, are, however, continually revising our calculations in light of unfolding events. Our current forecast anticipates that as many as 165,000 private-sector jobs will be lost throughout the city’s economy over the next 24 months, which compares to a forecast of 85,000 jobs lost in the Comptroller’s most recent budget report, issued in July. We now believe that as many as 35,000 of those job losses may come in the financial services industry; our previous forecast was that the industry would contract by 25,000 jobs. The differences reflect the spreading of the economic troubles to other industry sectors as the nation slips into a general recession.”

Look, LIEbrals, the fact that Joe the Plumber can't legally work as a plumber in his state, doesn't have anywhere close to the money to buy out the company he was claiming he was going to buy out and is a GOP plant with secret McCain/Keating connections is just a distraction from the real issue: that Obama is a socialist who is going to steal from the average blue collar worker in The Heartland, all of whom make more than $250,000 a year. When are you Commies gonna wise up to the fact that Obama is trying to steal this election by getting voters registered to vote?

If there were a political slaughter rule, it would have to come into play when a clearly prearranged last-ditch rhetorical stunt to derail any serious conversation leads to the other guy looking good in the process.

It's the equivalent of Bristol Palin, on the surreal white-by-astounding-collective-ignorance wedding her mother seems to want to force her to have the week before the election, announcing that she can't do it - that she's fallen in love with a real man who satisfies her body, mind, and soul in a way that trout-fucker never could, and a shrill air horn just outside the threshhold draws attention to Bill Ayers on a Vespa.

Which, I am told, is trading at $70 on intrade as of today.

So, I'm currently making $45k and paying $5k in federal income tax. And you're offering me a job that pays $90k but requires me to pay $12k in federal income tax? Well, fuck NO! I couldn't possibly accept paying more than double in federal income taxes, never mind the extra $38k in take-home pay. It just ain't FAIR!!

What's WRONG with you people??!!

As to the $250K thing, I’d like to see one single example of someone who turned down a pay raise or a business opportunity because the amount of extra taxes actually lowered their net income. WTF?

Reagan likes to claim he did, and to this day Republicans weep big, fat tears about him being taxed so much on his sixth 1960s million.

I think the Democrats are as complicit as the Republicans in this. Taxes are a good thing - they're onerous sometimes, but you're buying a service along with everyone else. You're building schools, roads, and homes, helping people through rough times, keeping the country strong and keeping its future bright. And yet we've been encouraged by our rat-race culture to treat putting a dollar into the machine and not immediately getting a blowjob as an affront.

The Democrats and Republicans offer tax 'relief' to the poor and rich - and call them 'middle class'. This is particularly perfidious in the case of the actual middle class, because those taxes are the only regular opportunity someone making $30,000 in an office is going to get to change things seriously for the better. And ultimately, the difference is a few hundred bucks for you and millions of dollars for society.

If people talked about 'relief' from family or society or, God forbid, church the way they did about taxes, how much you want to bet Joe would all of a sudden get suspicious? That is, if he weren't a Republican crank trying to gotcha a candidate with a stupid question about something meaningless.
