Bringing guns to church. What could possibly go wrong?

I’ve been told by an old friend, an historian(and UU and gun owner,) that there is still a law on the books in MA that all menfolk are required to bring their muskets when attending church. In case the weirdos from RI spill over the border.

Also, as a Unitarian I feel comfortable saying that even should gun ownership become compulsory, it’s not likely to affect the 0.0% gun ownership rate among UUs.

Ummm.
That number is not valid for MA – family traditions(along with UUism) going back several hundred years.

I wonder if religious persecution is considered a valid cause to seek a license to carry …

Ugh. I need some brain sanitizer. I just perused the comments on MM’s board. There appear to be an awful lot of 13 year-olds who see things like this as proof that they need to carry guns with them ALL THE TIME. Completely ignoring the fact that the shooter was taken down by 2 middle aged UNARMED people.

Candy is unfortunately correct. These are monsters wearing human masks. They can’t even manage to hold together a pretense of feeling sorry that people were killed and injured and children were marked for life by this walking pile of suck and fail. None of this, of course, is surprising. It’s coming from the same people who called Rachael Corrie “St. Pancake” and who made jokes when Beth O’ Brien fell to her death from a tree-sit. It’s coming from the same people who wonder aloud why the police don’t use live ammo on protesters. The more I see them speak about things like this, the more certain I am that most of their feelings go beyond the realm of simple political disagreement and into “You should die for being who you are.”. I think the only thing on our side right now is the fact that most of them don’t actually have the guts to drop the hammer on another human being, or at least they don’t think they can do it and get away with it.

I learned a valuable lesson when the Oklahoma City bombing happened. We had the radio on at work, and were listening to the reports coming in. I was incredibly upset; the whole thing was just such a terrible tragedy. There was this very nice older lady who worked next to me. I turned to her and said something like, “Oh, this is so sad!” And she looked at me rather uncomprehendingly and said something like, “Why? At least it’s just the government” or words to that effect.

I just sat there, stunned. It was then that I realized that some of my seemingly rational, kindly fellow citizens, were just wearing normal people masks, and underneath was this festering ugliness.

I also remember Mancow Muller laughing about 911, saying things like, “Whoa, that was so cool!” Right up until they found out it wasn’t an accident. Before that, it was like, well, it’s just lefty New York, y’all.

So the Malkin/Ace/Wankee reaction to this doesn’t surprise me. Monsters with people faces on.

I have to say, when my local UU congregation held a “sex show,” it was really an educational session on LGBT issues for teens, where I talked about such sexy, scintillating topics as “how crossing your legs one way makes you look like a guy” and “that time someone laughed at my ID picture.”

My favorite thing in the comment thread is the person insisting that he made up the stuff about hating liberals and gays so that people would think he was a conservative, and therefore his crime would discredit conservatives… making it an example of murderous anti-conservative rage!

Give them a minute. They’re still basking in the after-glow of being persecuted/targeted. In a little bit they’ll catch on to the fact that his ex-wife once attended the church and we’ll hear how this all her fault for not upholding her marriage vows.

I too had a gander at the comments on the appropriately named hotair.com … & as a result, I now understand much better exactly why abortion clinics in the US all have metal detectors & armed guards at the door. What sort of brain-diseased clown takes a bloody gun into a church & continues to identify themselves as a Christian?
