Jacquie? Oh…

Posted at 11:14 by HTML Mencken

What does not kill J.M.P.P.’s egomania only makes it stronger:

All objective data indicate that I have above-average attractiveness. So I think it’s clear that the “you’re ugly” posts are really being fueled by a combination of sour grapes (not because they necessarily wanted to date me, but because they’ve been rejected by other women and want someone to take it out on) and mediocre people’s need to try to tear down their betters.

And:

Very few men are alpha males. The sooner the ones who aren’t realize that and stop chasing alpha females [like herself, she means] the sooner they can refocus their attention on women they could actually get.

Nietzsche (BGE, 111):

Our vanity is hardest to wound precisely when our pride has just been wounded.

Update: Jacquie is a smug bitch whose insane degree of conceit, coupled with her thorough mediocrity, is terribly annoying to others (hence all the bile thrown her way). But this is why you should really hate her: She takes her libertarianism seriously — by which I mean, she is a Social Darwinist:

Education, income, financial responsibility: These are major components of one’s socioeconomic class, which is a pretty big indicator of quality.

I’m from an upper middle class background but spent most of my teens and early 20’s rebelling against my parents’ pressure for me to finish my degree and get an academic or other professional career. I spent those years “slumming it working, living, and socializing with members of the lower middle, working, lower, and even destitute (homeless) classes. So I have plenty of experience of what the people in those classes are like. Their lives are self-inflicted disasters.

I used to be a believer in the popular myth that poverty in the US is the result of poor luck, not poor character. It took wasting years of my life and tens of thousands of dollars trying to help my “less fortunate friends and boyfriends before I finally gave up and realized that their situations were the result of consistently making bad choices and not just misfortune.

Gavin adds: From slumming it with members of the upper class, I’ve found that ‘upper middle class’ is quite often a code term used by people who grew up taking ski vacations at Courchevel, but whose families didn’t actually own the resort.

Bradrocket adds: I think this passage actually makes a fair point:

Very few men are alpha males. The sooner the ones who aren’t realize that and stop chasing alpha females [like herself, she means] the sooner they can refocus their attention on women they could actually get.

I can’t disagree. Men who are not assholes should not want to date raging hose beasts like Jacquie.

Gee, it’s not possible that the “you’re ugly” posts are being fueled by the fact that she’s, well…..ugly?

Ultimately, her physical appearance is pretty irrelevant, though. The personality she’s putting on display via the internet is incredibly unattractive – at least to me. And, based on the objective data at hand, it’s unattractive to the overwhelming majority of people as well.

Am I really that unusual in valuing an attractiveness (and compatibility, naturally) of personality far, far more than I do one of personal appearance? I’ve dated models and minor league athletes and just regular joes, and it’s never mattered to me one way or the other. I think I do okay in the looks department, as far as those things go – but I just don’t worry about it. Life’s too short.

Well, you’re certainly not unusual in CLAIMING it….what would be unusual is if you actually did it outside of the anonymous blogworld. Not saying you do or not, but the vast majority don’t, period.

I’m not a picky woman. I’ll crush on male or female or other, on any religion or race or nationality or height or weight or education or background or vocation or dietary preference or….

Well, you get the picture. But goddamn if you don’t have to display a sense of humor. And even more important, a sense of empathy. Just some demonstration that you believe people are not the sum of their credit rating. Some evidence that you understand that bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. Some sense that you genuinely regard people as individuals, worthy of respect for *some* reason.

Is it too much to ask? I don’t think so. Who the hell wants a lover who is, at heart, fundamentally ungenerous? Give me a three face with a ten personality, any day.

I propose that there are no objective data here. Any data taken are from a non-representative population. And she has backtracked to claim above average looks..which I’ll give her. 51% is a nice number. I use 50 on the 0-10 scale, as opposed to using 75% as a C as we used in school.

But the point, of course, is her unsurmountable vanity and her complete lack of concern for the less fortunate. Perhaps making bad choices is, call me crazy, a misfortunate tendency of many people. Isn’t she lucky, she of the ever falling IQ, that she is immune to bad choices. And alluding to a comment, had the parents who were able to indulge her teenage rebellion. It is always a bad choice to have poor or unsavory parents, isn’t she to be commended for making the proper choice in-utero.

And for NobodySpecial, yes we all have a suprficial idea of beauty that we enjoy from a distance, but a beautiful woman with a wretched personalty is not a good long term investment. Bad choice, as it were. Si as we sit here and just look at Jackie’s (or the French Jacquie’s) photo, perhaps we see some attractiveness. Quickly sqashed by the written word, however.

As the pundit (the immortal Jimmy Soul) says, “If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife”.

Perhaps simplistic, but certainly, IMHO, applicable to Ms. Jackie.

Interesting scale of classes there: “lower middle, working, lower, destitute”. I’d have thought they overlapped somewhat. By my usage the “working class” is comprised of all hourly wage-earners, and “middle class,” in American usage at least, is, roughly speaking, those people who could afford to own a private house, there being sub-classes “upper middle class,” “middle class,” and “lower middle class” representing the relative splendor of the houses they’d be privileged to buy.

At any rate, peering into the future, I foresee two branches in Jumpy’s future. In both she snags the kind of up-and-coming male who appears clearly superior to us workies, yay for her! Then in branch one, it turns out that for all his strenuous effort, he ends up falling behind the neighbors in the status rat-race; only can afford a 5-series BMW, while down the block is a family with a Bentley and an Aston. In branch two, hubby gets the Aston, the mini-mansion, and the green envy of all the neighbors; and on her forty-second birthday Ms. Jumpy gets divorce papers so hubby can acquire a fresh twenty-three year old trophy wife with silicone breasts.

I sympathize in advance. To deal with these emotional blows, ordinarily I’d prescribe Schopenhauer, but that seems a bit harsh for the kind of silly simple mind that takes libertarianism seriously at a post-Jr. High age, so in Ms. Jumpy’s case I prescribe the consolation of scripture, specifically Ecclesisastes 9:11-12. Or maybe 9:16, whatever.

This goes with that “bad choices” moralism that drives me batty. It’s not because it’s never true (indeed, it often IS true), but because, in the end, it’s not what they’re really arguing. When you look at Dubya, Brownie, and other assorted shouldn’ta-done-wells, all of whom meet Ms. Supah-Thang’s “criterias” for being successful, it’s clear that it’s not the bad choices themselves that are disastrous and contempt-worthy, but rather the lack of cash flow capable of making it all go away.

The best part so far has been the absolutely correct statement that alpha males in the non-human primate world have a rough life. In chimpanzees, they can run things for a long while and do ok if they have some pals to back them up, but among baboons, the gamma or even delta (just so long as you aren’t the dead last baboon) will often have hordes of offspring. The alpha will be busy mating with two or three high status females while the beta tries to get in with the same females when the alpha isn’t looking. The gamma and delta males and females can run around humping each other all the live long day, since they are ignored by the alphas. The status of the progeny will not be as high and they will not have the first access to food like alphas will but their stress levels will be lower and they will have had more children.

Check out the book, A Primate’s Memoir by Richard Sapolsky. Good read and not technical.

Then he/she posts a rebuttal accusing you of two things: not really being aware of the subtle nuances of libertarianism and libertarianists, and wanting the government to control everything. What I find so funny about this is opinion that even if it is true it is logically inconsistent for a libertarian to limit the opportunites for people to re-enter the competition of life. After all, if people aren’t actively competing they are making you and society as a whole weaker.

Which goes to show what upper middle class libertarianism is: fear, fear of failure, fear of competition, fear of falling. It is an unquenshable desire to live anunearned pampered aristocratic lifestyle, mascarading as a will to self invention.

The truly self made are generous.
The wannabes like JMPP are cheap because they are afraid
A self made man or woman is self made in his or her mind before the wealth arrives if it arrives at all. Sometime wealth is not even the goal. JMPP doesn’t understand this, that the glitter truly is not the substance that makes life worthy.

To me, someone who is a truly confident “alpha” doesn’t go around constantly harping on how great they are. If you have to tell other people you’re an alpha, you’re not.

Kind of applies to Bush, et al, too, doesn’t it?

And yeah, the “poor people are just stupid and make bad choices so there’s nothing I can do about it” schtick is the selfish person’s method of soothing the tiny pangs of guilt that occasionally bubble up through the perfectly controlled facade. Everyone makes bad choices. As others have stated, the difference is what kind of support system do they have to help them recover from those choices.

I’ve seen an upper-middle class female college student reduced to poverty because of ridiculously poor choices. I’ve seen that same woman escape from an abusive, drug-dealing husband and drag herself out of poverty so she could provide a safe home and a decent education for her two children, eventually even restoring them to the middle class she started in. But it took psychotherapy (she suffered from undiagnosed chronic depression), two or three years on welfare while she finished her graduate work in a medical field, and supportive friends, family, and church groups. If everyone had given up on her after the first round of bad choices (as Jackie recommends), a hospital would be short one nutrition specialist, the Marines would be short one recruit (her son), a university would be short one student (her daughter), and I would be short one older sister.

So, Jackie, here’s a hint: the number of poor people you dealt with in your personal sphere do not a representative sample make. When you have personally interacted and “tried to help” a minimum of 3000 people of statistically proportionate races, family backgrounds, education levels, and urban/rural backgrounds, and kept detailed records following all of them for a minimum of 10 years, I will happily and respectfully pay attention to your thoughts on the issues of poverty in America. Until then, you’re just pushing anecdotes to support your prejudices, and those of us with contradictory experience would appreciate it if you just STFU on this subject.

No shame in graduating from a teacher’s college, I did too, but it’s a little incongruous given her self-description as a really brilliant person. Couldn’t she get into a better school? Or did she, and then she flunked out?

Her most recent alpha male is a professional poker player. She’s been married! to a guy who subsequently came out as gay. They got married because “they were both looking for a spouse” (she was then 22). She only reads children’s books science fiction and Ayn Rand (big surprise there). She used to be active in libertarian politics, which is no doubt when she was afflicted with all those losers and deadbeats.

Her real life story is probably fairly interesting, if she were only able to be honest about it, with herself or her readers. When you consider the myriad illusions this woman has about herself, you do begin to pity her.

No one has mentioned the Spock (Mr., not Dr.)-like tone of her writing and her profile. This kind of Smart Nerd hyper-rationality asks only one thing: that if she does her job (gets good grades, knows the facts, “is interesting”), that she’ll be rewarded with what she wants. She needs the world to be a meritocracy (the way school is, more or less) because then she’ll a) get what she wants and b) not have to worry or think about anyone else. The suffering of others becomes a result of bad “choices,” which is the libertarian’s moral skeleton key, releasing her from having to be concerned with or implicated in the unfair, unmeritocratic consequences of history.

This girl knows everything about herself except what’s important. No wonder she advertises herself, not as a person, but as a product. I have nothing against personal ads, but presenting yourself as an “alpha,” with a really good resume, displays the social instincts and emotional sophistication of a twelve-year-old.

I’m not surprised. I figured her “list of attributesâ€? was, in itself, evidence she’s a Social Darwinist. The only people who seriously advocate eugenics – and I’m willing to bet good money she’s one of them – are those who believe they’ll be selected in.

One almost never hears this shit from people on the “lower rungs – not because they aren’t aware of how society views them, but because they’re acutely aware of how easily the illusion of ‘middle classdom’ can be shattered.

Most people in the upper middle-class are just one illness or natural disaster away from being wiped out financially. They’re cushioned, somewhat, by the fact their parents and other family members are usually from similar economic backgrounds. And, because of that, they can also make a greater number of Bad Choices ™ without being ruined completely.

After scrolling down to the “portrait” of J., I can say she isn’t unattractive (she may be ugly, but that’s an inner glow.) This is born out by the fact that all the “poor” people she knows are afflicted by their own designs. She obviously chose to hang out with that type of poor person. (Maybe to make her feel better about herselfe?) As for attraciveness, her forehead is too high, her noze is a bit long, and her mouth is narrow with respect to her jawline. Her hair is limp, thin, and nondescript in color. The “diamond” formed by the endo of the nose, nostrils, corners of the mouth and lower lip is a bit cramped, the size of the features collectively overwhelming the space allotted. Her color choice washes out her skin tone. I’m guessing on this last, but from the front view only, I suspect her profile is fairly flat, with forhead and tip of chin coplanar. She has relatively good symmetry of features, but not exceptional (eye shape/size/horizontal allignment) slightly off and mouth not quite uniform. Her hair style doesn’t quite work, making her face look longer whithout balancing her features within it.

    Just my two cents.

But this is why you should really hate her: She takes her libertarianism seriously — by which I mean, she is a Social Darwinist …

Which is just another way of saying JMPP is stupid, ignorant and possibly racist. Social Darwinism has long been unable to cloak itself with quasi-legitimacy as “grim realism”. It’s just been totally debunked. And it’s relatively common knowledge that it’s been debunked, so either she’s deeply uninformed or else (given her self-proclaimed intelligence and education) an amoral rationalizer of her own social position.

For one thing, the better we have become at probability studies of closed human systems, the more randomness we discover. Whether we’re looking at stock market fluctuations or baseball statistics, we continuously discover more and more of that ephemeral quality we call “luck”, both the bad version and the good.

Shit, it’s been what, six or seven years since Jared Diamond neatly tied together for a popular audience the disparate random factors that shaped the lopsided development of technology and growth in different parts of the world. In light of the work that’s been done to make this sort of stuff available to the general public, it’s remarkable that someone as supposedly literate as JMPP seems to believe individuals have total control over their economic and social circumstances.

Which isn’t to say that people can’t “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” … it’s just that any objective analysis would calculate the chances of a poor person attaining middle class status versus a middle class person maintaining that status as vanishingly small. And it has hardly anything to do with “character”. As a wise somebody who I’m too lazy to Google once said, turning $100 into $110 is almost impossible; turning $100,000 into $110,000 is almost inevitable.

For JMPP, this fundmental and wilful misreading of reality may just be a psychological crutch she leans upon for her own psychic well-being. But for society at large, we know what effect such pseudo-scientific claptrap is put to – the further dismantling of our already threadbare social safety net.

It’s also striking that it never occurs to JMPP that the fact some people are actually able to afford several years and tens of thousands of dollars “slumming” without it permanently damaging their life prospects … is Argument 1A with Whipped Cream on Top against her nutso theories.

First of all, JMPP’s looks are NOT above averge. Click through and look at some of the other photos on her site. They’re under the “photos of me” section on the left side of her homepage. She is Gnarly Sheen, Gnar Gnar Binks, Gnarles Mingus and Gnarles Groden rolled into one. She is, at best, a 4. Let’s assume she has a killer body– that would make her perhaps a 5. Don’t be fooled by what is obviously the best picture ever taken of this slag in her pathetic, miserable life. She is beat. I’ve had a few one-night stands I’ve regretted, and none of them had grills as hideous as JMPP’s.

Well, anyone in her narrow milieu is likely to attract plenty of drooling geek bot attention, which is really a window into her MO. She basically courts the attention of libertarian fanboy basement dwellers, tells them what great friends they are and how she wishes more men would adopt their perspective, laughs at their stupid Star Trek jokes, nods appreciatively at their discursions on Magic the Gathering strategy, then when one of them makes an awkward pass after a night of drinking at DorkCon 3000 she gives them a condescending look of pity as she explains what great friends they are but she just doesn’t see them in that way.

Don’t waste your time, fellas–a bit about me:

Fact: I’m objectively gayer than 98% of Americans

Fact: I’m white. Did you know that whites have a bunch of stuff?

Fact: I’m male: A lot of people go on and on about women; however, only 51% of Americans are women.

Fact: I hold advanced graduate degrees from fancy universities, while black people rarely hold such degrees.

Fact: My genetically-fit parents are rich white people who own a bunch of stuff, while most Americans are not lucky rich people.

Fact: In a peer-reviewed hot-or-not study by the internet, I am rated a 9.5 amongst all the males in my cohort. Which means I’m 95% cooler than you.

Fact: My income merely covers monthly rent, which puts me in the middlingest percentile of NYC residents.

Fact: I wouldn’t fuck that bitch with a borrowed non-gay dick. Also, I’m a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Richmond).

It is a fact universally acknowledged (quoting Austen, not Ruppert!) that the modern American High School Experience is mostly about “popularity”. And in the AHS, the “popular” person possesses two basic attributes:

    (1) They are “hot” — by some floating calculation of physically attractive/nubile/potentially sexually available; and

    (2) They can afford to buy all the latest, newest items & accessories, discarding last week’s must-haves without regret or prejudice.

Thus, the modern epitome of AHS “popularity” is… Paris Hilton.

This is a pretty low-level-primate idea of human Alpha fitness, and it should be noted that the anthropological research on this kind of social organization has largely been done on a species of monkey much googled by political advocates over the past week. It seems, according to the current research, that macques may be natural Libertarians. Thus we tie together the disparate threads of our moonbat blogological discourses.

Those of us whose fondest memories of high school are the ones we’ve managed to repress, and even quite a few of the high school ecosystem “winners”, are only too glad to escape into a wider universe where we can re-calibrate the Alpha standards. (People who fail to escape their high-school paradigms — see Bush; George W.; Rove, Karl; or Gibson, Mel; — are some of the most dangerous & also obnoxious individuals currently running loose in America.) Most of us find or form social groups where we can be loved for our personalities, our achievements, or our skills, over and above the AHS Dual Metrics.

The luckiest or hardest-working among us get paid for doing what we do best, but even those of us whose careers are just jobs can find social niches where we can be lauded for our talents… like the bloggers who can snark over the internets toobz for an approving audience, for instance.

Science fiction fandom, loosely defined, is one of those niches — it may even be considered a prototype for the Blog Universe niche. SF fans reward the well-read, the witty, the avid networker, the creative, and the snarky. And when it comes to physical attributes, our standards are as elastic as our waistbands. Those “less perfectâ€? individuals in JMPP’s photos are happily hooking up in a social arena where “nice personalityâ€? and “great sense of humorâ€? are considered positives, not excuses.

JMPP, by her own accounts, has spent untold amounts of her time, nubility, money, energy, and other valuable resources in these arenas. And, according to her own words, she has failed to impress us with her intelligence, wit, education, or creativity.

So she’s reduced to fleeing back to the Paris Hilton Gold(digger) standard: ‘I’m hot and have money.’

Tragically, she’s taken some of us right back to high school with her. Remember, when you start throwing around words like “hose beast and “c*nt – the Paris Hilton HS Terrorists have won.

Hardcore objectivist-style libertarians seem to be heavily dominated by a subspecies of male noted for living in the parental basement far past the point where it’s seemly to do so. Attention from a female echidna would probably provoke an enthusiastic resopnse from them.

You’re giving this girl’s ego too much credit. I’m astounded at the attention this dimwit has received from intelligent males no less.

If you read her accounts of her last relationship, she was clearly the underdog, always waiting for her gambling man to come home, always fighting for the bare emotional necessities..a scrap of attention. Yet she hung on, hoping he would change. Read her account of the emailing “stalker” and you’ll see how little self-esteem and sense she has. The girl is a few blocks short of street smart and her so-called intelligence isn’t worth much.

From her description that “It took wasting years of my life and tens of thousands of dollars trying to help my “less fortunateâ€? friends and boyfriends before I finally gave up and realized that their situations were the result of consistently making bad choices and not just misfortune.” one can surmise that she unwisely “loaned” money to friends and boyfriends that she just didn’t have to lose… and that they, for the most part anyway, didn’t pay back a dime. It seems that JMPP was naive and unaware of one of the most basic rules of finances: never lend money, especially to friends or family, if you can’t afford every penny of it to be gone forever. If you wish to call it a “loan,” feel free–it’s nice when someone unexpectedly pays it back. But, in your mind, you must consider it a gift, never to return, or you’ll sour every relationship your money touches. It’s so, so essential to never loan out money that you’ll actually need in the near-future; that’s a sure-fired recipe for disaster and broken relationships. So it seems JMPP let herself be taken advantage of and as a result is being harsh toward the less well off. That wasn’t the lesson she should have learned.

“Her real life story is probably fairly interesting, if she were only able to be honest about it, with herself or her readers. When you consider the myriad illusions this woman has about herself, you do begin to pity her.”

JMPP is the classic ‘almost cute’ SF geek fan girl who never grew up. She was treated hideously for years by AHS society because she was geeky and fat. So she developed low self-esteem and a hard shell to cover it. And she managed to lose some weight.

This last act made her into a person who could ‘pass’ in AHS society (think about Roth’s ‘The Human Stain,’ etc. here). JMPP can now move between the world of uber-geek fandom and what others would describe as ‘reality.’ So this gives her the tools to get a fair bit of payback on BOTH her former geek comerades (whom she seems to not so secretly despise) and on some AHS guys who might now be ‘into her.’

I also think that she’s more than ADHD: I suspect some Asperger’s, maybe even BPD or bi-polar? Oh well. I played enough ‘Magic’ back in the day to recognize ‘the type.’
